Nuclear Decommissioning Crimp Shear Tools

Hamwic crimp shear tools are used for removal of pipework in nuclear areas where the inside of the pipe may contain contamination. The tools crimp then cut the pipe leaving a closed end thus minimising the potential of contamination spread. A swarf free cut is achieved reducing secondary waste. These tools have been successfully deployed by the UK and USA Nuclear Decommissioning Industry

Hamwic has conducted hundreds of crimp shear trials and in addition to our standard tool range we are in a position to manufacture tools either hand held or for remote deployment for specific applications.

Crimping thin materials poses special problems as the bulk of the crimped pipe end is not plastically deformed and the cut end springs open when sheared. Therefore the tools designed for copper pipe have a unique anvil design which produces a double crimp to prevent the copper pipe end from opening up after shearing.
